President - Jeremy Halperin

Hello my name Is Jeremy, and I am very excited to be the president of the CU Energy Club this year.  I have seen this club grow rapidly from its infancy, and I feel very lucky to be the third president of this amazing club.  It is my goal to continue this clubs growth, and keep providing amazing energy related opportunities to CU Students.

I am entering my third at CU, and also my third year of involvement with CU Energy.  I am studying Chemical Engineering, and am also pursuing a Energy Certificate.  I am currently doing research in Rob Davis's Lab on separating Algae from water using low energy methods in order to develop a sustainable process for making biofuels form algae.  Last summer I worked at Hazen Research, an Engineering Consulting Firm, working on an extraction process for a large minning company.   If you have any questions or suggestions for CU Energy, please feel free to email me at jeremy.halperin@colorado.edu

Vice President: Mike Dow

Mike is a second-year MBA candidate at CU.  He has worked in various roles for renewable energy companies and nonprofits over the last 5 years.  He has also been involved the campaign to municipalize Boulder’s energy and seeks to better understand how renewable energy technologies can empower marginalized communities in the developing world.  Originally from Ohio, he is proud to now call Colorado home.

Treasurer: Rob Somand

Rob Somand is a dual degree graduate student at the University of Colorado studying business and engineering. He is interested in the roll of ancillary services and transmission scheduling in deregulated energy markets. He participates in the  CU Energy Club as a means to promote job placements, mentorships, and boost club funding.

Rob is looking to apply his experience identifying business opportunities to energy projects throughout the American Southwest and internationally. He is available for travel, speaks intermediate Spanish, and can be reached at somand@colorado.edu.

Secretary: Blake Langdon

Blake is a third year PhD student in Chemical and Biological Engineering and a student in the Graduate Energy Certificate Program.  Her research interests include protein adsorption at the solid-liquid interface for applications in biomaterials, biosensing, and biofuels refining.  Previously, she received a BS in Biological Chemistry and Environmental Studies from the University of Chicago.  While at Chicago she studied algal photoproduction of hydrogen in contrast with conventional natural gas steam reforming hydrogen production.  She has also worked in molecular and cell biology labs in Melbourne, Australia and is interested in interdisciplinary energy research and development.  Last year she served as the Director of Engineering for CU Energy and is looking forward to another great year with the club.

Director of Arts and Sciences: Max Gompertz

Max is a Senior studying Communication; Psychology; and RENEWABLE ENERGY!  As a Berkeley, California native relocated to Boulder, Colorado, he has a deep-seeded interest in making our energy infrastructure a cleaner one.  Involvement in the campus community is important to Max as well.  His involvement with CU Career Services has helped him gain experience working with recruiting employers.  Max hopes to better engage Boulder's avant-garde student body while CU Energy Club continues to reach some of the nation's most prominent energy players.

Director of Engineering: Rudy Kahsar

Rudy is a 2nd year PhD graduate student in the Chemical and Biological Engineering Department where he is studying controlled selectivity of supported metal hydrogenation catalysts modified with self-assembled monolayers.  This catalysis research has applications in the petrochemical and energy industries.  In addition, he is a RASEI graduate certificate student interested in energy policy which is how he would eventually like to use his degrees.  On the side, he enjoys training and competing in triathlons, eating moose tracks ice cream, and reading The Economist.
